And here is what nobody knows

Ninety years on, nobody can cleanly say how the effect behaves across languages and scripts — whether what matters is the language, the writing system, or simply how much practice you have had reading each one. The results so far do not add up to a rule that predicts which of your languages will show the bigger effect.

And readers of three or four scripts, ordinary across much of India, are barely represented in the studies these theories rest on.
